Accessible Car Hire

The wheelchair accessible cars can be used for those wishing to access hospital and doctor appointments, dentist, shopping trips etc. There are no restrictions on journey purpose.

What you need to know

  • Drivers must be over 21 years old and have held a full driver’s licence for at least two years.
  • Your nominated driver will need to be available for a short familiarisation with the vehicle and training in the wheelchair access and restraint equipment before taking the vehicle out for the first time. Once trained, your nominated driver will be covered by our insurance.
  • If you cannot drive the car yourself or do not have any body to drive for you, we do have volunteer drivers. Please call us to discuss 01559 362403.
  • You are charged per mile for your journey which is invoiced once your journey is completed.
  • Unfortunately, we are not allowed to accept bus passes - although the Community Transport sector is lobbying for this
  • Our accessible cars are based at community hubs across Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire. Your volunteer driver will be given details of where to collect the vehicle.

What type of vehicles can you hire?

We have two different types of cars: -

 Accessible Cars

We have automatic accessible MPV cars (people carriers), which accommodate one wheelchair user, plus up to three passengers as well as the driver. The cars have a winch and ramp access at the rear.

We can accommodate most passengers but please ask and we are more than happy to help with any issues.

Have a large wheelchair? More than one wheelchair user? A large group? You can use one of our accessible minibuses.

 Electric Accessible Cars

We have accessible Electric Vehicles automatic MPV cars which can accommodate one wheelchair user, plus up to three passengers as well as the driver.

The accessible car has an electric winch and ramp access at the rear. The car will be fully charged before you use it. On average the car will travel approximately 100 miles, this however, does depend on the type of terrain. The more hills, the car will use up more electricity!
If required Dolen Teifi will provide you with a map with the various charge points along your route.

How to operate the EV Nissan MPV car

The car is automatic and when you collect the vehicle it will be attached to the charger. For further information on how the vehicle operates, please watch the video below or print out our information leaflet.
